Take a Deep Breath: Find Health and Wellness in Everyday Life
Spring is in the air! We’ve been enjoying the beautiful sunshine, flowers and renewed energy this time of year brings! Spring can also be a difficult time of year for many with allergies, as the season brings an array of pollens, molds, and other allergens that can trigger sneezing, coughing, and other allergy-related symptoms. The most common allergens during springtime are tree pollen, grass pollen, and ragweed, but even weeds and flowers can contribute to these issues.
Natural allergy support strategies include limiting histamine-containing foods, eating anti-inflammatory foods, taking supplements, drinking natural herbal teas and staying hydrated. And of course, be sure to get regular adjustments! Chiropractic adjustments can help to alleviate allergy symptoms by restoring balance to the body's nervous system and helping to improve airway function. Taking deep breaths encourages more air to flow through the lungs and helps to clear out allergens and pollutants in the air. Deep breathing also helps to reduce stress and anxiety, both of which can worsen allergy symptoms. Additionally, deep breathing helps to increase oxygen levels in the body, which can help to reduce inflammation and improve overall health.
BOX BREATHING TECHNIQUE:
Box breathing is a simple breathing technique that can help support your physical and mental health. It involves inhaling slowly for a count of four, holding your breath for a count of four, exhaling slowly for a count of four, and then once more holding your breath for a count of four. This practice can help to reduce stress, lower heart rate, and improve your overall sense of well-being. Box breathing can be done in any quiet place, either sitting or standing, and requires no special equipment. It can help to reduce feelings of anxiety, improve concentration, and relax the body and mind. This technique can also be used to help improve sleep quality and aid in physical recovery after a workout. With regular practice, box breathing can help to support your overall health and wellbeing.
Here’s to happy, healthy & bright sunshine days!
Dr. Sara Shany
Doctor of Chiropractic
& Acupuncturist
~ Meet Dr. Sara ~
Hello! I am Dr. Sara Shany and I am originally from Emmetsburg, Iowa. I received my Doctorate of Chiropractic from Northwestern Health Sciences in Bloomington, MN. I am also certified in Acupuncture, Rocktape, Webster technique, and Activator Technique.
After I graduated, I practiced in my hometown for 4 years and then worked for another office in Cherokee, IA for another 3 years. My husband and I recently relocated to Des Moines for his job and we moved into a loft downtown. In my free time I love to read, clean and organize (while listening to audiobooks), paint, and try out all the fun places to eat in the metro with my husband.
I love to work on everyone but kids just bring an extra burst of joy to my day. I would say some of my favorite cases are those with headaches, plantar fasciitis, elbow tendonitis or just your basic wellness adjustment. I can't wait to start to get to know all of you!
